WHAT ARE BINDINGS USED FOR?

The role of bindings is to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall, while providing the necessary support to deliver maximum skiing pleasure.

HOW IS THE SETTING FOR BINDINGS DETERMINED? The skier’s weight, height, age, level of proficiency and the length of the boot shell are used to calculate the figure on which the indicator is placed on the front and rear of the binding.

Which binding for which ski?

BINDING SYSTEM

Most skis are now sold complete with matching bindings, known as a “SYSTEM”

Beyond design, colour and mounting compatibility, the features of the bindings sold in packages are tailored to those of the accompanying skis and the relevant discipline.

The interfaces (plates) have been developed to improve the ski’s behaviour on turns. They raise the position of the boot slightly, allowing more incisive and

powerful control.

SCREW-ON BINDING

All-mountain and freeride skis do not have an integrated system on the ski. The bindings used in these disciplines are called “open” or “screw-on”.

A professional drills the ski and screws on a binding. Why is this? This is due to the emphasis on a light weight and ski-snow contact for these skis: they need to be as close as possible to the snow, so the interface is eliminated.
